Religious leaders of all faiths Wednesday offered to conduct joint prayers for the victims of the Westgate terror attack on Tuesday next week.
The prayers will be at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
The clerics took turns in condemning the terror attack in which 61 civilians, three Kenya Defence Forces soldiers and three GSU officers were killed and more than 240 other people injured.
CONSOLE EACH OTHER
“Terrorists profess no religion and have no borders. We should get together as a nation and console each other. We should support our security forces to fight these criminals.
“Somalia is occupied by only one community and there is no other faith but Islam, yet the terrorists have been butchering innocent people there,” said secretary general of the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims Adan Wachu.
Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo said Tuesday’s inter-faith national prayers would be the first of many similar events.
It will be a permanent feature of interaction between the State and religious groups, he said.
The function is scheduled to take place between 10am and 1pm.
